Software and apps
There are lots of different types of software that can help people with poor eyesight use a computer more easily.
RNIB have produced a short video about screen magnifiers and screen readers:
Screen reader software works by reading out loud what is on the computer screen.
Screen readers can read text and computer commands. They can also read the descriptions of pictures on web pages.
A screen magnifier is computer software that makes a part of the screen bigger, allowing people who have poor eyesight to see it more easily.
Audiobook Cutter allows you to split large audioboooks and podcasts into smaller sections. This makes them easier to use on MP3 players.
WebbIE is made up of several different programmes. They all help blind people and people with poor sight to use a computer more easily.
Colours and resolution
QuickRes2 lets you change the resolution of your computer screen so that the content looks bigger.
Screen Tinter LITE lets you change the background colour of your computer screen. Not everyone can see it clearly when it is bright white.
